Collection: Best Hair Ties for Cheerleaders

Cheer hair ties take more abuse than almost any other sport. A high ponytail, a bow on top, and a full out routine every practice. Buckle Scrunchies hold through all of it and click open in one motion after.

The bow goes on top. The Buckle Hair Tie goes on first and stays put through tumbling, stunts, and the pyramid. After the routine, press the buckle and the ponytail comes down in one click, hairspray and all.

Cheer scrunchies wrap 2 to 4 times and you choose how tight, so they work the same on short, long, curly, and straight hair, and nothing gets ripped out on the way down.

Cheerleaders, tumbling classes, and competition teams use these because the takedown is the part that usually costs you hair. Hair ties for cheerleaders that survive a full season.

Why it works for cheerleaders

Cheer hair gets teased, sprayed, and pulled tight, then the elastic gets ripped out after practice and takes hair with it. A Buckle Hair Tie or Buckle Scrunchie clicks open and unwraps, and it holds a high pony through every stunt and tumbling pass.

Best for
  • High Ponytails
  • Cheer Bows
  • Competition Day
  • Game Day
  • Stunting
  • Tumbling
  • Teased Hair
  • Hairspray Hair
  • Sideline Cheer
  • Cheer Moms
  • Practice Days

Benefits

  • Takedown after practice without ripping through sprayed, teased hair
  • Fewer broken strands and knots from game day ponytails
  • High ponytails that stay centered through stunts, tumbling, and jumps
  • Snug under a cheer bow without a headache by the second half

Features

  • Click open buckle, so teased hair unwraps instead of getting dragged out
  • Extra stretchy band that wraps 2 to 4 times for a tight, centered pony
  • You set the tension, so it can be competition tight without hurting your head
  • Fabric scrunchies and thin hair ties, so there is an option for practice and comp day
  • Really strong and made to last forever. Wear it out (you should) and the buckle has a 100 year warranty

How to use Buckle Scrunchies

1. Tying up your hair

  • Start with the buckle closed
  • Hold the buckle so you know where it is
  • Wrap 2 to 4 times around your hair like a normal hair tie
  • Buckle wraps around last, so it can be the first thing to come off!

2. Taking down your hair

  • Locate the buckle (should be around the outside loop)
  • Press the sides of the buckle with the fleshy part of your fingers to click it open
  • Hold both ends of the buckle if you have thicker or curlier hair so it doesn't get lost or tangled
  • Let it unwrap and twirl out of your hair. Remember, there's no need to pull anymore!

Cheer hairstyles that survive a full routine

Cheer hair is a high, tight ponytail with a bow, and it has to hold through tumbling, stunts, and a pyramid without a strand moving. Set it with a Buckle Hair Tie in Industrial Black at 3 wraps, buckle on the outside loop, then add the bow over the top. The buckle locks the tightness so the pony does not creep down between routines. For competition curls, a half up half down with a MINI Buckle Scrunchie keeps the crown smooth while the curls stay down. Team packs come in solid colors matched to most programs, so the whole squad ties up the same way. And after the meet, the part every cheer mom knows, unwinding a hair sprayed pony, becomes one click.

What hair ties do cheerleaders use?

Tight, strong elastics that hold a high pony through tumbling. Buckle Hair Ties do that with a buckle instead of maximum stretch, so the hold is the same and the removal from sprayed, teased hair is a click instead of a rip.

Will a Buckle Hair Tie hold under a cheer bow?

Yes. Tie the pony first with the Buckle Hair Tie, then place the bow over it. The bow hides the buckle and the buckle keeps the pony from sliding.

Can I get team colors?

The vibrant and neutral solid ranges cover most program colors, and the 100 pack team box brings the cost to a dollar a tie for a full squad.
